Either you could just put them out of the window or drill though the frame of the glass.
Nothing like being prepared hasty enough. wal mart or ace hardware sells clips that will dangle on the gutters or clip to the hanging over the edge part of the pack of the roof

Decorate your courtyard and not the house. Run extension cords out to the lawn and put your lights up out there.

This will also hold the fire hazzard away from your home and gives you 30 minutes or so time to notice if a fire ignite before it gets fundamental your home.

Answers:    I actually use Velcro spaced around 6 inches apart. Place the sticky end on the brick and the Velcro part around the lead. Sometimes it come off on a windy daytime but it pretty much holds. Then when your ready to take them down the sticky module comes off the brick easily.
