How can I brighten wooden paneling? I am buying a house and the den has wooden paneling up....

I am buying a house and the den has wooden paneling up. I don't necessarily want to rip it out and start adjectives over at this point, but I would like to do something next to it that would brighten the den up. Any suggestions?
