Yes, it WAS originally a regular, wood-burning fireplace. It got converted sometime before I bought the house, and I want to convert it final to a real wood-burning fireplace. What should I expect towards costs?
throw some logs in your done

p.s make sure the chimney is friendly

yes you can do that. But you necessitate to get the chimney checked to see that it is still safe to use. Use a professional to disconnect the gas stripe to make it safe. The costs are minimal. get underway fires are very inefficient. Most of the heat go up the chimney flue You should just be able to verbs out the gas fp insert... If you don't have an insert and just a gas/propane tube, the gas or propane company can come remove it for you. Give them a send for... :o)

The cost should be minimal... It's not difficult..
Answers:    All these answers are pretty accurate. Any gas plumber should be able to disconnect your logs well and cap off the gas smudge. Service calls range from $50-$150. A chimney inspection will run around the same. Definitely have it inspected. As long as zilch was altered putting the gas in to start off with and the chimney is in appropriate shape, it should be an easy change over.

Good luck!
