I'm looking to decorate my apartment next to art that I make myself. I own no idea where on earth to even begin. I'm extremely bad at painting, so that's out of the query and it needs to be cheap. I'm hoping to start beside something to go over the fireplace surrounded by the living room. It needs to be pretty big.
Any suggestions would be great.

Answers:    Do you enjoy a camera? I know you said art, but . . if you don't paint . . . maybe run a picture, you can have it developed, blown up & cropped- you could lift a pic of a favorite flower, or shells, etc, something in colors you close to. Frame it in a matted frame, or a floating frame. You can do a hulking frame with a smallish picture for effect.

try embellish a large simple mirror next to frame-with sea shells, bedazzle it, doesn`t matter what.

homemade flag/cloth-any design or quilt

instead of painting something from mark, how about stamping similes? large test at your local craft store, or make your own stamp, tons of ink selection at the craft store

or you can do a series of black and white photos of nondescript things or of family. you can buy frame kit with mat.

SEries of magazine covers, or something of interest to you.

You can also do mosaic. Get some cheap plates at the dollar store, all different colors and create your own mosaic.

Or sort your own wall clock.

Etch a mirror.
