The house was built within 1992 and we are planning to install a tile backsplash in the kitchen, but we don't know what sticky stuff to use since we can't figure out what the existing surface is. It's similar to a very sinewy white layer of plastic over the existing wall and it runs up and down the cupboards and down past the counter. So it wouldn't be comfortable to remove. Does anyone have an notion what this would be called or what glue we could use for tiling over it?
Answers: It sounds like laminate. Talk to the individuals at the tile store. I think if you rough up the surface first tile mastic will stick.
