a gray brick fireplace
and wood paneling on the wall that's obviously going to have to step
what are any ideas of the room
(exp. a love seat on wall 2) or something resembling that

Answers:    What are the dimensions of this room? You have a room with copious openings, and that can be very offensive to arrange. You also do not mention if you'll be having a TV--having both a TV and a fireplace can create the challenge of have two competing focal points. So...
1. Consider, if the room allows, arranging furniture within the open space--not against walls. This allows you to outline space without walls.
2. If you are having a TV, can it be hung over the fireplace, to allow you to arrange the furniture around a single focal point?
3. Do you close to the gray brick of the fireplace? If so, consider getting an area rug that contains shades of gray to tie in the color. If not, consider sculpture the brick.
