Finishing the room over the garage? I want to get the room finished over the garage. I would...

I want to get the room finished over the garage. I would resembling it to be a "sports room" for my husband. I was wondering if anyone have ever had this done and the estimated cost. I want drywall put up and I don't know much else about it but my hubby is going on a 6 month deployment and I don't want to go and get taken advantage of by a contractor because he know that I have NO IDEA something like any of this. Please help!
Answers:    gabbys rite,,,i do the sort of work you are after....and yes,,some quotes i enjoy done have be a 1/4 the cost of some other quotes, you will find honest people, and total rip offs....similar to gabby said,,,get a dozen quotes if you call for to,,,there is no charge,,,,speak to other people,,,,ask a million question,if the builder cant be bothered answering questions,,hes not worth the trouble...the best opening to go is referral from friends/others who have similar job done...make sure they are licensed,do NOT payment any monies up front,,,,,lastly,,you will find the quotes will average out,,some will be super cheap,,others super expensive,,,stick to a mid range price,,you should do O.K
Get name from ppl you know , ask the parents at the school your kids attend.

Get deeply of estimates.

Dry wall is a really trick job to bring done right, I would find some one who only does dry wall.

The handy guys who one and only do it here and there will not do it as biddable as someone who specializes in dry wall.

You could hire out the brief like a contractor does, a moment ago hire different ppl for different jobs.

Like and electrician , drywall guy, framer, ect.

We have some dormers put on our home and every time the contractor left I get the guys phone numbers and used them for the rest of my house.

This saved us profoundly of money, the contractors are fine if you can afford them.

However they are middle men and if money is tight try to do the hiring yourself.

Its not as tricky as you think, I moved my kitchen and pulled my own permit, hired all the guys and it turned out great.

I did use a young at heart man who was only just getting started to help me next to the layout and he hung the cabinets.

I well-read a lot and save a lot too, so appropriate luck.
