We recently renovated our kitchen and get granite countertops and my mom gets really annoying next to her potholders! She puts a potholder under everything! Do they even mark that easily and crack? You can't even put a bowl on the counter and she'll achieve mad if theres not a potholder underneath?
Is this required?

Answers:    After we had ours installed the guy threw his key across it to demonstrate it's durability - it was the best entry he could have done as I be instantly relaxed about it - however he did put on alert me against dragging earthenware type dishes etc across it as this will mark it (You know, like the underside of a home made pottery item). I other use a pot holder underneath a hot pan or baking dish. - we own had ours within for about 3 years in a minute and it still looks great (ours is kind of black within colour) - I only ever wipe it down near a damp cloth and if I want to buff it I dry it stale after with a tea towel.
That said - as it's your Mum who probably salaried for it - you must respect her guidelines - they are a pretty expensive item.
Kitchen remodeling?
no it's not necessary beside granite. it will not scratch slickly and is able to withstand lofty temperatures. the one and only warning is don't spill red wine on it. granite is highly pourous.
