I have chemical sensitivity and sensitivity beside smells. I want to know if Bamboo flooring has any chemical smells to it. I want to rent a coast house but don't know if I should because it has rattan floors which I heard could hold a smell.
Answers: By now, there's be a lot of regulation of rattan floors. When they first came out, at hand was a concern near formaldehyde emissions. But, very soon European and US standards have adjectives but phased out the old floors to form room for ones with emission that are low-to-none. It should be said that most flooring is finished with some sort of treatment to keep moisture out. Bamboo is no exception. My suggestion is to pop in the location you're thinking renting and see if you notice any perceptible odour. Ask about how long the floors own been installed. If they've be in for a while, probability are that they will have finished outgassing.
Over the long-term, modern flooring is designed to maintain the air free of irritants. This is the good thing of natural flooring, so it is within the interest of the industry to make sure that emission are not a problem, even to senstive noses approaching yours.
