Ok. So we are getting a new apartment. It is in a small city approaching area in Vermont, and it is the tower of a historic building. Full tower, spiral stir covering, 14 foot windows, all untested, gorgeous building but I am wondering about detailing. What kinds of things do you observe when you walk into someone's house? Stove? Covers? Sofa color? Small things that bring the room together. What do you think? There is also a fantastic viewpoint of the river, and views on all sides of the busy street and gorgeous brick building if that help. Thank you!
Answers:    With the views and original details you described, I would do my best to not detract from those contained by decorating the apartment. I would choose neutral-colored paint, minimal window treatments, and articulation colors that coordinate w/the view (blue or green like the river; soft red approaching the brick building).

Also, if possible, I would try to keep things period-correct. If you live contained by a 1920's building for example, it would be cool have a few vintage pieces from that era. It will reinforce the mood of the historic building, and your guests will be very impressed!

Lots of plants will make the addition of to the ambience as well. Put them near your windows--this will draw people's eyes to those 14-foot view. Good luck and have fun decorating!
