My wife and I are planning on carpeting the living areas in our house. They are currently covered surrounded by terracotta tiles with yawning grout lines. I'm concerned that if we just hearth rug over the tiles as is we will be able to see and have a feeling the grout lines. The grout is about 10mm huge and sits about 2-3mm lower than the surface of the tiles.
Any thoughts? Anyone else enjoy experience with this?
About adjectives I've been competent to think of is using a self-levelling compound over the tiles to permeate the grout lines back to the rank of the rest of the tiles.
You're going to run into al kind of glitches, here! When the underlayment and carpet are laid, likelihood are the doors won't close, or will seriously rub on the carpet! The baseboard will come across too small or low. As you walk on the hearth rug, the grout lines will telescope through the carpet and you will own lines and squares that never come out!!
Take the time to remove the tile where you plan to hearth rug. Yes it makes a mess. Yes, it's plentifully of work! But...if you want a good brief that will last for years, and keep hold of looking great, go the extra mile. and do it right!!
To each his/her own, but I would maintain the tile as is. Easier to keep verbs. I myself am getting rid of my carpeting because I don't like the upkeep.
Don't know if you enjoy considered resale of your home sometime down the road. Done think I'd put more grout, If you purchase descent hearth rug pad along beside descent carpeting, don't think it should be a problem.
Best ancestors to ask would be the experts. Ask carpet store if the tile would pose a problem? May be someone out in attendance who would have better answer than myself.

Answers: I would definitely use the filler or leveling compound. If you don't you will eventually be capable of see the grout lines or at the least you will touch them.
Both Bootsare and Rawstyff get good points. A really gooey carpet wipe should hide the lines but it might lead to problems with the baseboards and doors. Also you must consider of the resale angle. If you mess up the original floor,it might squash a Dutch auction. Not everyone likes carpet so the new owner would own his choice. If you regrout the lines you can forget about removing the hearth rug at a later date. Baseboards can be removed and put put money on after laying the runner but you still have to trim the doors. If they are hollow doors,you'll probably enjoy to replace them with solid doors that can be trimmed to size. Good luck
