I want to oil a door and trademark it but if I don't like the look can I paint it after that?
Answers:    Boiled linseed grease can be added to alkyd (oil based)paint to condition it and increase penetration which make it adhere to doesn`t matter what it is applied to.

An old painter trick would be to thin the primer, almost within halve next to linseed oil, agree to that coat dry and re-prime again-
linseed oil alone also be applied to galvanized metal, gone to dry then primed and painted.

To answer your question---you will be capable of paint the door ONLY if you use an oil base primer left to dry for a few days--stressing dry.You should use an grease based top coat(or 2)but you might catch away with an acrylic top coat.

As far as varnishing--if it doesn't look well-mannered bare it wont look correct varnished. If you do varnish use an oil base.If a varnish is real ancient it might not dry properly so best buy a quart of new.
I own done a ton of wood working in my duration including making rifle stock and pistol grips. I have never tried what you suggest but I wouldn't do it to a project. If at hand is no other way or if you really want to do it, I would strongly suggest you do an experiment first. Something means of access down in my gut is recitation me this is a bad belief.

If you do try it how about some feedback on how it go. I am always looking for fresh ideas for finishing and re-finishing wood.
