We have a short time ago removed some panelling from a basement wall to find that it have been tarred on the inside. Rather than squander space with studs and drywall we would similar to to put stucco (or something like it) on the block work. We are afraid that the asphalt might cause a problem.
Answers: Stucco is placed over a metal grid which holds the stucco contained by place. Unless you have a extremely unusual tarring situation, I wouldnt see a problem in anchoring 2x4's onto the wall itself, placing your grid on the 2x4's and starting your stucco. I hope this help
