i want to put them in my baby's room, which is relatively elaborately painted... so i want to paint the shades or put decals on them (or buy them decorative) to game the room's theme & look resembling they're "scenes" out the windows...

is it possible to do this? what paint would one use? what big-hearted of roller shade material? have anyone seen any that are already showy with panorama?

thanks!!
Answers:    You can pretty up your shades with stencil paint, which is a terrifically thick oil-based paint. It will be more flexible than any other paint. In reality, my 9-year old neice only just did her shades -- she got some really nice stencils, a couple of paint colors, a stencil pouncing brush, and merrily go to town. Looks like a pro did it! Fabulous! Then, she go on to stencil her dresser, a border around her room, and I think she's moved on to the ductwork contained by the basement... Stencil paints can be used on any bits and pieces effectively. (WARNING!!!!! Stenciling can be addictive!!!!)

Decals will start to unstick quickly, and wrinkle. Most other paints (acrylics) and the approaching can be treated with a substance that will net it a "fabric" paint, but this is really only suitable on non-plastic shades.

Another alternative is to find a swath of material with a scene, cut the lower portion of your shade, and sew on the material. This will make the shade bulkier when rolled up, but can look really cool (I did this within my dining room (English cottage and garden scene) during my Country Cottage phase). I did this with recycled shades (someone be throwing them out =]) because it seemed silly to wages for new shades when adjectives I really wanted be the roller and the mechanism.
I don't know roughly painting a shade but I put contact quality newspaper on a kitchen shade one time to match the wallpaper and it worked rather well.
