Answers:    If its indisputable bronze, why not just polish it?

If it is a Stiffel, don't paint it, you'll run the helpfulness.

A big box store will have spray Rustoleum which is made for metalwork. Lots of colors and texture.
I doubt that a "real" Stiffle was at Steinmart.
