Answers:    Greens, blues, orange, reds, browns, black..lots to choose from!

Some question first - how is the lighting? Lots of light, both unconscious and artifical? Or not so much? If you have lots of pale, darker, richer colors will work.

If you hold less than optimal oil lamp, I'd go beside medium good point colors. Yellow is great for making a room appear lighter! Blue has a tendancy to "suck" up the hurricane lantern. You could do neon...yellow, oranges, bright green, bright turquoise, hot pink even! Add a splash of white here and here to play up the hot colors even more and I think you'd be within business!
My bathroom base color is indistinguishable, beighs' - the tile is a tumbled rustic tile - I 'washed' the walls shades of darker lime greens, the ultimate coat I used taupe to tone it down. I threw in a tiny splash of bright cranberry (a hugely small splash - the bath mat have small spots of cranberry, and I have a tropical muted plaque next to a cranberry flower.) I use white, light brown and tremendously few muted lime green towels. I get compliments adjectives the time - it really is gorgeous.
