Instead of oil base? just curious..im gonna paint my living room and i havent a clue
do you be going to latex water base paints??

water base paints are sooo much easier to use than oil base. they are

easier to work with,
smaller quantity off gas (smelly)
much easier to clean up.
much smaller amount $$$

now here are times oil paints are better but for most projects shift with the much smaller number expensive water base paints

talk to your paint vendor about details and how to's - fine art is easy and fun. even if you want 2 coats its still cheaper than most oil-based paints

get a well brought-up quality paint of any type

get suitable quality brushes and rollers (the cheaper ones are not really cheaper if you own to re-do work because they didnt do the job)

take your time - foot attention to the details

first CLEAN your walls - tsp is the best product (but white vinager will work to- as you want to remove dirt and oils- its IMPORTANT and too many citizens skip this step and wonder why their paint job doesnt look 'just right'

use your painter tape to protect the areas you dont want to paint
remove adjectives of the switch plate covers and use a piece of the blue painters cassette on each recepticle to cover the switch or the plug recepticle (keeps the paint AWAY from the electricity which is a obedient thing!)

remove door handle - its tacky to do everything else right and enjoy your handles enjoy paint spots!

use your drop cloths (less clean up) contained by the long run the painting itself doesnt give somebody a lift a lot of time but if you dont do the detailing it still wont look a short time ago right.

and sooooo many colors thats the fun subdivision

have fun!!

Some paint labels can be confusing to the cosumer.
Acrylic is an ingredient found contained by alot of interior and exterior water-based paints. Especially in complex end paints. Yes, you can use acrylic latex (water base means to sea soluable, clean up beside soap and water).
Go to a paint store and get suggestion on products and application for your home.
If your not sure whats on your walls, get staple polish remover, put on cotton ball, rub onto surface. If it comes past its sell-by date like it be like pin polish, its oil, if it comes rotten but stubbornly, its water base. If its oil. Get primer to prepare your surfaces since you paint your top coat.
Clean your surface, patch any holes, prime, then top coat.

I wouldn't recommend any oil, its high surrounded by volatile fumes containing formaldehyde, tolulene, etc. which can make some relations sick. Water based is safer, low VOCs and better for you and the environment.
Answers:    As long as the walls enjoy not been previously painted next to oil-based paint, you should use latex wall paint. Latex is water-based.

You wouldn't want to use acrylic. Theoretically, you COULD, but artists' acrylics are expensive (a small tube of certain colors costs nearly as much as a gallon of latex paint) and craft acrylics are not as colorfast as latex ... and would cost much more to paint walls beside.
