Hello! I would like to a enjoy a specific type of bathroom but I don't know what it's called. I saw it on HGTV once, but never again. It be all wood. Wooden walls and floors. And the WHOLE bathroom be the shower. So when you turn the water on, everything get wet. And the dampen just soaks into the floor. Thank you for answering!
Answers: sauna possibly?
That style of bathroom is called a damp room. And if you are planning on installing one that is adjectives wood like you described, you should really do your research within regards to the type of finish that will be on the wood. Talk to paint experts, furniture/cabinetmakers, etc. Maybe even befriend a entity at a specialty finish supply co (like liberon) or specialty paint store that carries laquers/urethane/conversion varnish, and enjoy them call the capitalist and speak with the chemist on staff to find out what finish will withstand the environment for your application. Wood really doesn't similar to water, and stripping a has-been finish from an entire room is hours of "no fun". I had a friend who have a very older house, and in it be a wooden soaking tub. They didn't use it because it looked as if there be mabye 50 coats of some clear finish (urethane), and it was cracked and split, beside sharp, plastic like notched edges at the cracks that would cut you if you used it. Good luck! Sounds like a cool notion for a bathroom. Might look into suspended narrow temper glass panel over the wood on the walls (with an inch or two between the wood and glass so condensation doesn't achieve trapped) so that the wood doesn't receive direct contact from the water. If you find out a fitting finish for that application, let me know, it would be appreciated.
