Can I verbs up my own runner? I want to pull up the carpet within my room, and I...
I want to pull up the carpet within my room, and I really don't want to pay anyone to do it because money is tight. So I was wondering if it be possible to do it myself and do I need any special tools or equipment?
You should be able to do it yourself. You may need a mitt from a friend or something though because it can be quite heavy. You don't really involve any special tools other than something to pry the tack strips off of the floor. yes.. I reflect you probably could.. but I also think you could easily achieve any guy to come over & help you at anytime of the day (or night) .. where on earth do you live? .. I'm on my way!
goodluck & tgc (of your nails)
I have a friend help me do mine. We cut the carpet first contained by 4 foot strips with a utility knife because the trash wouldn't pick up anything wider than that. Once we cut it, we rolled it and tied it and took it out to the trash. Once we get the carpet and padding up, we used a touch pry bar to get the tack strips (the strips around the lip of the room to hold the carpet in place) up. Whoever put the filling down, stapled it into the floors, so I crawled around and used pliers to remove all the staples. It was to a certain extent easy to do. Pulling up carpet is a sinch. Much easier than you would expect. You'll necessitate some help to get the mat out of the house, because it's heavy. And you'll need to pay attention of the tack strips between the time of removing the old carpet and lay new.
(You didn't mention laying brand new carpet, but if that's the plan I'd definitely enjoy a pro do it. Not an easy task, especially if you want it done okay.)
Answers: Yes you can, the hardest part will be getting the first piece loose from tack strip. Buy your self a utility gouge. I would cut slice in carpet just about 6 inches long, then you can use screwdriver with flat blade to ply mat from tack strip, once it starts coming out it will be easy job. Roll mat over as you remove and cut in strips so it will be easy to convey out. The carpet is easy to cut from vertebrae side. The hardest will be is making first cut on top of carpet. Be amazingly careful with utility stick, that you do not get cut. After you finish go around the room and remove the tack strips near small pry bar and hammer.
Good Luck
yes you can pull it up yourself! newly use your legs when you lift! a hammer to verbs any tacks out.. and pry bar to remove behind the times wood used for holding the carpet streched out! If you plan to discard it, you can do it fairly unproblematic.
First thing to consider. Handling a full cut from any room but especially a large room. You can prevent a rear legs ache.
At any doorways, cut across the "seam". This doesn't have be exactly at the tape seam.
Use a carpet knife or a blade knife.
From the the doorway or at any corner, (you can lift a corner by using a screw driver), verbs the carpet off the tack strip along the walls.
This is where on earth you may have more carpet that you want to or can feel.
After you have pulled the carpet past its sell-by date the strip along all the walls, cut the carpet into nearly 3 feet strips so it can be rolled and easily discarded.
If you remove the strip, use a small "Pry Bar", similar to immense crowbar. You can force it under the strip, or use a hammer to stroke it. Now you can pry up the strip. It will break in pieces. Be cautious of the tack. They are sharp. Then remove any nails that remain from the strip having be nailed to the floor.
If the subfloor is concrete, chips of concrete will come up with the nail. Can't be avoided. You'll have to patch those with a powder, "Quick Patch", available at Lowes or HomeDepot, to prepare for other floor covering.
If you intend to salvage the mat, you have to be more careful.
A knees kick is advisable which can be rented at tool rentals.
(About $5 or so per day)
Implant the teeth of the kicker into the carpet more or less a foot or less from the wall. With your knee, hit the pad end of the kicker lightly, until a wrinkle appears at the wall. Hold the position and release the mat from the strip. Repeat the kicking along the wall until the entire walls are released .
This prevents the possibility of tearing the carpet. Pull upwards to release the mat. The tacks holding it face towards the wall at an angle.
At doorways, look attentively for the "seam". It is taped. Cut carefully, exactly on the seam, so it can be redo.
DO NOT cut into strips. You'll have to handle the full cut surrounded by one piece.
IF the room is huge by chance, there will be a seam, and you'll enjoy to locate it.
If necessary you can carefully cut through the seam at the video.
(May be at some point 12 feet from a wall).
This can be reseamed.
DO NOT store FOLDED. Roll it. DO NOT FOLD the Roll.
This will create wrinkles which will be difficult to stretch out.
It can be reinstalled using the same strip or at another location.
Where metals may be encounter at a door, there are several.
On Wood floor, the carpet may be of late turned and tacked. You'll have to locate the staple heads and remove.
OR, it may have a flat metal across the top. Use a screw driver and remove the screw.
On Wood or concrete, it may have a "Blind MetaL" (Z-Bar).
The carpet will be turned at the edging, being held down by the Z-Bar hammered down to hold it.
Pry along the fringe of the carpet to release the Z-Bar. The carpet will consequently be attached to tack strip. Release the carpet.
On concrete, it may be a Z-Bar, a "Clamp Down or Pin Metal".
Clamp down is visable and the edge of the metal is clamped down over the runner edge..
Pry along the metal on top of the hearth rug until the edge of the metal is popped up enough to verbs the carpet back. This too will be attached to pins within that metal.
All metals can be replaced if damaged.
