I need some ideas on what to put inside the bricks where on earth the fountain is. It is bare with little grass. Also the outside bricks should i paint a different color? http://inlinethumb17.webshots.com/40016/...
i close to this new product "Stepables". They are plants that tolerate foot traffic. I would use this instead of mulch. I feel similar to it attracts termites and you have to replace the mulch every year.
in between the stepable plants, you can plant perennials.

Oh how pretty! Probably lay some plastic first to keep weed down, then lay about 3"-4" of some angelic mulch...probably a bag and a half will do it for this nouns. It looks like this might get some full sun so plants/flowers that resembling sun will be the ones to survive. Hostas and Impatiens can't handle full sun. You don't mention the general nouns where you live so if it's further north, they might be able to toy with it. Here in the Midwest, the summer weather gets comparatively hot and dry.
You can try planting some tulips (planted in fall) around the inside perimeter of the scallops afterwards petunias (planted in spring) in the middle, after something else up against the statue...something like colorful iris which come up every year.
That way you will own a garden in near constant bloom. When plant ends it's blooming, the subsequent will begin two weeks later and so on. The petunias will stay contained by bloom all summer and through the fall.
Answers: I bought exactly these concrete dividers from Lowes to circle my lion fountain surrounded by precisely the manner you did yours. (Great minds think surrounded by the same direction). I chose to paint and seal them using Patio Paints, they break and start disintegrating unbelievably easily. If you have a big dog or merely ones that are curious like mine, they can knock them over and they will break ( some of mine did). So hubby dug a trench and concreted them in so they cannot drop over. I used black patio paint as a base and used eucalyptus green wipe over it with a damp scarf to give a patina color (which would go near your fountain, too) They also have a bronze which you could do over the black to give an aged bronze appearance. I chose to use river rock pebbles inside the delineate area around the fountain with weed wall underneath and used small urns with plants in them so the doggies couldn't draw from to them. The weed barrier does a great job keeping the weed down but an occasional one that pops through gets shot to death next to vinegar spray and dies. I used succulents in my urns (dogs don't like them and they have need of little water) surrounding dwarf peter pan plants (they give me a bloom this time of year). I also found seal the edgers with the patio paints sealer be a good idea if they get hold of hit with the automatic sprinklers every day. These edgers come from China and they use a better sand content than we do so water adversely affects them over time.
Yes... lay down a weed membrane. (you can find it at any lawn and garden department)
after cover with mulch.
Dig out the mulch enough to put some pots within of various sizes... then put some adjectives plants in them. Lots of color...but ...also use some ornamental grasses and some green scrubby plants to supply some definition to the area.
I would dig down surrounded by the soil a bit to allow for some larger pots to be planted before putting in the weed membrane.
~or~
put down a weed membrane..consequently fill with river stones (muticolored smooth rocks).consequently put some pots in deep contained by the soil and plant various plants.
