my comforter is frothy purple with blue polka dotted sheets
my dresser is tall, white and type of old fashioned looking
one of my walls is cover in 3 towering line squiggly mirrors lined up
my desk is a simple white desk

what can i do next to my room to give it a good subject matter?

I would verbs to mix the two, add vintage pieces (from antique stores, yard sale, etc) with more industrial styles and only buy things that you really love!(example: possibly add a really modern white and chrome chair to your desk. Ikea is other a great resource for inexpensive, modern accessories and furniture, as is CB2 and West Elm)

It kind of sounds similar to you have a cloud-in-the-sky theme going... (besides from the polkadots...)
But if that's not your point...
Your basic color is white which is nice because that goes beside anything, so if you changed your wall color you could basically do any theme you looked-for.
Maybe just try getting accessories mostly surrounded by a third color. (Maybe purple to tie in the polkadots?) Your room seems intensely light, clean, and airy. Hopefully you resembling that. I know I would.
