I'm trying to refurnish my room and I'm looking online for perfect bedsheets, etc. for my bed. However... some of these definition I don't understand.

I used to own a high-ranking end bedding shop surrounded by Boston. If you like sweating at darkness use a percale sheet. They do not "breath" like cotton. In the "business" they are call garbage sheets. For like peas in a pod price you can have cotton. The better the thread count the better the quality sheet. Egyptian cotton is the best. Shams are not a pillow skin. They are usually decorative pillow covers next to a boarder such as a flange. Can also have piping or some other patterned edging. One buys them to match their comforter or Duvet Cover. Nice bed linens are one of those luxury's that not a soul sees but when you crawl into bed at darkness you will instantly know the difference.

Yes the shams are what your pillows go within, same as pillowcases just fancier to coordinate next to your throw (bedspread). Hope this helps.
