Are there any "rules" or tips for mixing floral and stripe pattern into your home decor? I just repainted my room a vastly soothing sage green and stumbled upon a floral wallpaper border that looks amazing with the bright wall color. I'd like to incorporate a complimentary stripe guide into my bedding but have no thought how to choose a pattern that will work. The chief colors I am working with are sage green, soft pastel green, weak yellow and neutral blue. I'm usually very confident when it comes to decorate but this one has me stumped. Besides coordinating the colors surrounded by both patterns, are in attendance any other tips when trying to tastefully match the two?
Answers: I love your colors and I too love to mix florals, stripes, and plaids. I muse besides matching the colors you inevitability to be aware of scale. In other words, the size of the pattern. A tiny floral would look best with a pinstipe but not near a wide, bold stripe. I've done this surrounded by my bedroom (a little). My walls are blue, my comforter is cream but my dust ruffle is a bold floral with blues, greens, beiges and a short time red. I used the three basic colors: blue, camel and green on my windows surrounded by a stripe. I added pillows with floral pattern, plaids and some plain( one is all blue next to beige fringe and one red flower on it) to pick up adjectives the colors. You'll know what works when you put them together and what doesn't. Experiment. Good luck!
You can definitely mix pattern. The key is to use huge, medium and small level prints that carry like peas in a pod color family as in good health as background color. I quality that a striped or checked fabric is the best material to use with ANY lined fabric. Take a toss pillow beside you to a fabric store. I am secure that you will find something to coordinate with your existing pieces. Remember, it does not enjoy to have ALL of the color from your bedding. Typically the most prominent color should be included. Good luck.
