I am in my first apt and it seems so worthless. I am basically broke and was hoping for some really confident and cheap decorating ideas... I don`t know some do it yourself projects.
if you want new [cheap] furniture ikea is definitely the place to shift. if it's decorating you want, try making your own curtains out of old sheets. put up some pictures/paintings, cheap and natural, and at the same time make it give the impression of being more home-y. good luck! get oragami composition thats different colors. colors you like and that flow with your room. build paper cranes and hang them from fishing flash (2lbs test weight) at different lengths. i did it contained by my room cuz i was bored and it looks pretty cool.
you could make some cool pictures for your wall.you can use postcards on a piece of construction paper within the frame ..it willl look like a mat..i bought pictures in hawaii resembling this and went to change their frames years then and realized they had used postcards on construction treatise..so it will fool people..lol...you could also do that with some pictures of your friends..you can win any color pillow case at walmart and get some trim or tassles and cut them down to fit pillows or you could cut them and stuff them near pillow stuffing and use coordinating tassles and you have some inexpensive decorative pillows for a couch or your bed.you can use scarves on the tops of your curtains or your window to give it some flair.look at good will or thrift stores for thinking..you can dress a sheet up to be a one of a kind window treatement doing freshly that with some tassles and ribbon for a tie back...suitable luck Depending on you style, you could use fabric. Since you are living in an apartment I would guess that you are not going to be capable of paint the walls, which I think is the absolute fastest method to transform the look and feel of any room.
I used to be on a VERY strict budget some years back, so when I finally get my own place, I did a lot of thrift store shopping. You would be very surprised what adjectives you can fin in there. I have this one store that had EVERYTHING. They had fabric, curtains, furniture, bedspreads, sheets, clothes, shoes, jewlery, records (yes the ones that walk on turntables), toys, knick knacks, framed paintings, lamps, and TV's oh my.
What I am trying to say-so is that your possiblities are endless.
I picked up some awful paintings (very 50's, 60's style, and not the righteous part of that era), I took the painting out and painted the frame, used construction weekly for the matting and had a friend print out a few pictures of mine and hers that be 8.5 X11. Instant wall art. For my bedroom, I had found some curtains that were crumpled, a great find for 5 bucks. I found fabrics that I was competent to sew for the rest of the curtains for the living room and kitchen. I found a 3-shelfed bookcase that I painted a dark red to go next to the picture frames I had painted. I even painted on some fabric to distribute it a personal touch to MY space.

Think of things that you can use for a headboard. A colorful rug, lots of vacate frames painted funky colors and grouped over the bed, a large shawl etc.

Check the websites of craft stores ( Hobby Lobby, Micheals AC Moores) weekly because they often run 40% stale coupons. They also take competitors coupons too. You can find all kind of things to decorate with contained by these stores.

Plants fill space and give your rooms a nice get the impression.

Look at things and think how you could use them in a different instrument than they were intended. A little paint will do wonders to things.

Have fun and don't be afraid to make mistakes.
