These honeycomb shades come near a blackout lining, but you can get a buoyant color to match your decor:

How more or less some light gray curtains, with shears underneath and any a burgandy or navy blue tie backs made of ribbon so they can be just about 5" wide. Then you could do a comfortor in royal blue. A lot depends on how bleak your walls turned out but I would stick to shades of mauve and blue. I would suggest a room darkening shade for your husband's benefit and to keep going privacy, then you can pick up a drape that would match or coordinate near your bedding. With the shade for privacy, you would have need lone for side panels as they would not have to close.
Answers: I would choose privacy blinds in two pieces, one for letting lantern in and keeping the room private, and the other for blocking out the light altogether. These would be within a lighter colour. OR I would choose verticals with one side dark [for sleeping during the day] and the other side muted for when awake and letting light in. I would NOT put curtains of any description up as they close the room in, are dust collectors and not necessary for a lovely room. Good luck!
