after x2 coats of acrylic eggshell is it ok/good idea to finish with grease based.Just seems to enjoy a better finish...or is it just me!
Answers: It's not a good notion. it's not a bad idea. If the oil-based be a better finish you would have been better stale using oil based adjectives through.
Painting over varnish is poor painting practice. The varnish is rigid and paint chips off readily. Even when rubbed down or stripped properly varnished doors will enjoy varnish soaked deep into the wood stopping primer getting a grip.
People do it though. Hope you rubbed down well. An grease based undercoat for cushioning would have be preferable.
A lot depends on what you are decorationg if it is a complete room then I would not an the basis that grease based eggshell gives stale a lot of fumes. I think that grease based paints have a better finish and are probably harder wearing too. I would stay away from grease based paints. Stick with acrylics. Sherwin Williams make a paint (grade) called Pro Classics that is Hard comes within an array of colors and finishes and holds up great.
