Answers: depends on how you analyze the costs. but in the final analysis, i deem you'd be hard pressed to find someone who would a bit use a laundromat.

at home:
initial cost of washer and dryer
electricity cost of operating (some dryers may use natural gas)
cost of wet
at laundromat:
cost of using each apparatus
cost of transportation to and from laundromat
other factors should be considered
your laundry behaviour: if you're at home you MIGHT do laundry more often (i.e. do smaller loads) because it is more convenient and thus be smaller number efficient whereas if you own to use a laundromat, you'd probably wait until you hold full loads.
your time: going to laundromat you must commit a block of your time, although you will have more machines available to get hold of more done. but at home you can do a load while doing other stuff and you don't enjoy to worry something like interruptions. if an emergency comes up, it's no big deal if your clothes stay contained by your home machine for hours, whereas at a laundromat, they may not be in that when you return.
risk: even though you might inspect the machines at a laundromat, you might overlook something that could ruin your clothes, whereas at home you should know what's been within the washer previously (unless you have room mates). individuals who have home machines may use a laundromat to do the occasional filthy post, and you can't be sure some residue of whatever isn't vanished behind.
running: if your home machines fail, you must fix. but laundromats hold faulty machines and you conclusion up wasting money and time finding out a dryer isn't heating up, for example.
