You didn't say what color the lino is, if it is white an automobile whitewall tire cleaning product call Westley's Bleach White works very very well.
Lino is made from cork and liseed grease. It is then coated beside a range of finishes, most of which are designed to take action well to wax polishing. The wax degrade over time and needs to be stripped rotten and then re-coated.
White spirit is a virtuous de-waxer but, if the residue has be on a long time, it may take 2 or 3 go to get it verbs.
