As a glass washer for 5 years, I used Joy for dishes and a sharp squeegee. My customers were constantly amazed at the results.
For glass, put a splash of vinegar surrounded by some warm hose down and wash. If it's a glass, then use a squeegee or rub next to newspaper. It dries to a nice shine next to no smears.
For wood, wipe throughly to remove all dust and consequently apply a little beeswax, if you can bring back hold of any. That protects the wood and you can just dust it afterwards.

For wood I've heard olive grease and alittle lemon juice works tremendously.
