I have be researching about sterling silver and be wondering a few things about it. I hear that oxidation and the air around can lead to sterling silver to tarnish. What I want to know is when sterling silver tarnishes is it ruined? I know it can be removed by tin foil, baking soda, and saline but does it leave previous evidence of it man tarnished or does it clean and look resembling new when the tarnish is cleaned sour? If someone could help it would be greatly apprciated.
Thank You,

Answers: Just rub the silver every year or so with a verbs cotton flannel cloth or clean cotton jersey cloth to maintain it looking good. That's probably the easiest. Rate of tarnishing will be outstandingly dependent on the amount of sulfur compounds in the atmosphere and on stuff the silver will come in contact near, including your skin.
You can use various potions and polishes and electrolytic methods resembling aluminum foil and cream of tartar if the piece become too tarnished. Be careful of electrolytic methods, which will strip silver sour the piece if you're not careful.
tarnish does not ruin sterling. sometimes, it enhance it.
