I spilled make-up (foundation) on a black silk tie. Any suggestions on how to bring back it out? Someone told me not to wash it because it would dull the textile, besides dry cleaning is there any other means of access to get it out?
Answers: The problem beside home-washing ties is they seldom look right afterwards. They're usually lumpy and the lining is skewed. Also, the lining aren't usually pre-shrunken fabrics, so they'll shrink differently than the black silk.
If you needed to attempt cleaning it off at home, blot the foundation near a damp washcloth to some extent than rubbing. Try to pull up as much as you can. Lay the tie on an ironing board on a towel, stretched tight. Then use a very pale Woolite/water solution in the dank washcloth to press at the stain to dissolve it. It's important to draw from as little water contained by the layers of the tie as possible.
Once the stain's gone, agree to the tie dry thoroughly before discreetly steam pressing it with a transparent handkerchief as a press cloth between the iron and the tie.
If this sounds approaching too much hassle, take it to the dry cleaner's.
If you really convenience the tie take it to the dry cleaners.
