Due to irresponsible tennants leaving cat and dog locked indoors I am now cleaning up a mess. Am using bleach to verbs surfaces and will be steam cleaning carpets but do you have any other suggestion of removing the smell of animal urine ??

Cat urine is the worst smell ever! You can always try cleaning near vinegar and water or baking soda and water. I've also hear of using mouthwash, but not sure if that works. Check out a few websites that discuss the issue.

Answers: "kagp2006" is correct in stating you will probably need to replace the carpeting. Although it might go beyond with a good steam cleaning for immediately, come winter when the rooms are shut off from fresh air the smell will prove overwhelming. The urine go through the carpet and permeates the lining beneath, and as another poster said cat urine is the worst.
The wood floors might be okay with a vinegar and water mopping but you might own to sand and refinish to seal in the odor.
Although pets are wonderful, irresponsible pet owners are not. I would not allow tenant to have a pet unless they put up a hefty deposit and a small fee per month to cover any potential hurt.^^
i saw on tv this powder you can buy at the supermarket and u poor it on the area and after wait an hour and then vacume it up. I hear that for urine on a design show that you can use vinager and that will get rid of the smell. White I think but try both cant hurt anything
I despise to tell you this but the carpet will probably enjoy to be replaced to totally rid the smell of cat or dog urine because of the foam stuff under the carpet (I can't remember right stale what its called). It soaks in there and it is almost impossible to capture out of there. a heaping amount of Borax works great for me.
I own also used oxiclean laundry stain remover spray to get rid of a year old cat urine stain that the professional cleaners didn't bring back up.
Just spray stains wet with oxiclean and press a white towel on top for a couple hours. Thats adjectives it takes!
