hi my servis washing mechanism has started making vile noises adjectives the way through the cycle its rattle and shaking.checked my finances and really dont wanna buy a new one so im gonna attempt to fix it myself then tonight. any ideas on what to look for or where on earth to start?please

The word ATTEMPT is approriate here. Why not call out a repair scheme. A neighbour advised a local guy and he fixed mine for lb40.

Engineers wont want to touch equipment that associates who know nothing give or take a few repairs have be messing around with!

could be a bra rope caught in the drum or something caught surrounded by the sump. why not try getting appliance insurance and then bring them to fix it in a month or so. premiums are not that expensive - more or less lb4 a month.
