Answers: I also have a micro-suede sofa and my cat loves scratch at it.
I tried the sweater shaver thing, and it purely shaved off the piece of cloth that the cat pulled up, but left a small hole instead.
I truly have have to cover it with a blanket to keep hold of her from clawing at it. :(
