How can I clean it wothout spoiling the colour, texture etc? I bought it from a marketplace so it has some mud and such on it and it smells of... all right london.
Brush the mud off beside a soft brush, like a cloth brush on the back of lint brushes. Use the brush attachment on the vacuum to suck past its sell-by date surface dirt. You can toss it in the dryer near a fabric softener sheet on particularly low heat for a few minutes to return with the smell out. I collect vintage velvet coats that are often thoroughly fragile and this method is more delicate than taking it to the dry cleaners. Also, the answerer above me is correct a paw held steamer works and if you put a couple splashes of vinegar in the hose down it will get rid of the smells and the smell of vinegar will evaporate when it is dry.

Hi
My wife buys alot of vintage clothes and she bought a clothes steamer, bout lb40 on smudge, she steams velvet from the inside and then brushes the pile outside near a fine brush to keep the pile from going flat.
This seem to get rid of alot of any odour as well.
Hope it help
Answers:    i'd say your best bet is to transport it to the dry cleaners, or find a specialty story that cleans velvet. sorry i'm not much of a help! >.<
