How does one hang down a coat on a wood hanger? My Mother in-law says that you should hang up shirts, coats, jackets...

My Mother in-law says that you should hang up shirts, coats, jackets ... pretty much anything next to sleeves .... with the curve of the hanger facing outwards. I enjoy always hung anything on wooden hanger with the curve facing the stern of the garment. Can someone tell me where on earth she may have gotten this information .... and if she's correct? Thanks!!
i.e. the natural flow of the body when the clothes are on it. if you hang down the other way, the garment could be misshapen and not sit on the body correctly. m-i-l be right Years of passing on adjectives info to the generations make moms know these things, and sometimes dads like me.

Is that how they do it in the Land Down Under?

But seriously, it sounds backwards to me.
Answers:    I reflect on you are right. When you wear the clothing, the natural slope of your shoulders is merely a bit forward. If you hung a sweater on with the other side of the slope afterwards the points would make funny bumps that would stick out when you wore it. Her road makes the clothing stay on the hanger better, but I'd prefer not to hold abnormal bumps sticking past its sell-by date my shoulders.
