Answers:    The wicked tan colored aresol stuff? Try WD-40 on a napkin. Dont get that stuff into your clothes, though. Its permenent here.
The problem is that the foam either have to be scraped off, which will chisel the finish of your hardware, or dissolved. I think acetone or MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) might dissolve it, but you'll hold to try a test on a small dried piece to construct sure. But--the solvents will remove any finish that has be applied to the hardware (brass is usually lacquered). I would try (and I'm just postulating here) pouring boiling marine on it. It might just destabilize it adequate to allow you to rub it off next to a cloth rag.
