i went on holidays for 3 weeks and forgot about clothes that be half dry in the dryer i cant take rid of the damp smell. i tried washing them again beside loads of washing powder and fabric softener but the smell is still nearby.

You may not ever get it out completely. This is what I do I use the warmest water temp recomended almost 1 cup baking soda 1 1/4 of white vinegar with your usual detergent and let it soak nearly an hour then wash as usual.
