How do I mop up a down quilt? Today I am doing a little housecleaning and am wash my bed-covers....
Today I am doing a little housecleaning and am wash my bed-covers. I have a a quilt-like spine cover that goes underneath my sheets and over the mattress. I looked for tags but here were none. I'm pretty sure it can machine-wash but I be wondering what cycle and for how long to wash it.
Honestly the dry cleaning is the best answer. However, I hold down comforters and generally they are 100% cotton covered. I bath mine (King Size) in the washer. I do hold the extra large size washer. Then if it's a nice really hot day I own hung them outside to dry. You do have to fondle those feathers when it comes out of the washer and if drying within the dryer on low every 20-30 minutes you have to shake it out approaching crazy and move the feathers..(as they bunch up together no matter what you appear to do for them) It takes abundant cycles to dry it so be forwarned, and plan for it. The tennis balls are an excellent tip as ably. At least 3, or those great blue soft spikey dryer ball will help. Yes the cotton cover can shrink a bit, use cool or merely warm sea to wash, and on low to milieu to machine dry. I really didn't catch sight of that much difference in the size when I put it stern on the bed. Good Luck
In matter like this, I prefer to turn to the experts. If they mess it up, you enjoy recourse. If you do it and mess it up, you're out of luck. I'd take it to a dry cleaner's.
I guess what you have is not a quilt but a featherbed.
Answers: best to use a commercial type tumbler washer and use non detergent soap approaching woolite in a considerately type cycle. Dry on low heat near some tennis balls / shoes, something to whip the feathers back to the proper loft
