How do I shrink a wool sweater? I have a J Crew sweater explicitly a little too big for...

I have a J Crew sweater explicitly a little too big for me and I would approaching to shrink it to a smaller size. I think I may hold streched it out some wearing a t-shirt under it. The sweater is 40% merino wool and dry verbs only. I enjoy heard that wash it at home in the washer would shrink it but I'm alarmed I may ruin the sweater. Its one of my favorite sweaters. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Leather shoes get wet- presently they stink. Help!?
Answers:    Hand rinse out the sweater in cool river and something mild like Woolite. Roll within a towel and squeeze as much water out as you can. Then, using a sweater that fits capably as a guide, lay the wet sweater on a flat surface on towels and smooth to the correct size.or only just slightly larger. Use straight pins to in the sweater to the towel. It will dry to the alien size.

Hand wash it contained by hot water and lay it on a flat surface to dry. Washing it surrounded by a machine will shrink it too much, and it will lose its shape.Hanging it up will also bring in it lose its shape, because of the weight of the drizzling wool.
