I'm a habitual smoker and its one entity that I truly enjoy, but my room is connected to another tenant room via a door. She has complained that my smoking have been stinking up her room also. I'm a medical student and I NEED to smoke when I study, however do not want her to suffer for my addiction. So can anyone tell my how to make smaller the cigarette smell in my room and keep hold of from migrating to hers?
I have already tape down the seams to the doorway next to duct tape and would similar to to further reduce the smell from getting surrounded by to my neighbors room. Thanks.
Answers: Let me preface this by saying I'm not a rabid nonsmoker - I've smoked for 20 years. I prove right my own habit by saw that no one else have to suffer for my bad quirk. I'm strictly an outdoor smoker (and since Ohio passed a smoking ban ultimate year, I can't even smoke in a bar). I own two children and I won't smoke in my own house. My brother is also a longtime smoker who smokes contained by his apartment - and it smells like such an ashtray, I can't even stand to move about over there.
If your neighbor is a nonsmoker (which I'm assuming is the luggage if she's complaining about the smell), maintain in mind she's going to know how to smell smoke long before you can.
Even though you own separate rooms, cigarette smoke permeates porous surfaces (i.e. try wash a test spot on your wall and see what color the paint really is!) That smell will also pass through cold air returns and heat ducts. There's ways to minimize the smell, but chances are, she's going to verbs to complain if she smells any smoke at all. This may jeapordize your rental situation as powerfully if your landlord decide you're causing a situation.
You can try an nouns purifier, but I think you might want to try to retrain yourself to transport smoke breaks during studying. I stopped smoking indoors while I was finishing college (mostly because I have my son). I know it's not easy - and trust me, I used to manacle smoke while studying or working on the computer. A big part of it have to do with the triggers - try taking a smoke break after you finish a chapter. It's an adjustment, but you might find you smoke smaller amount and actually relish the cigarette more if you take a break.
PS - righteous luck with med conservatory!
Buy an air purifier. Whirlpool is a well-mannered brand - quiet and they work!
