I have notice pilling (or some people beckon it "balling") on my trousers. I know this is typically caused by friction. It is worse surrounded by between the legs, but I also notice it by the foot of the pant, at the bottom where my shoes would be. How can I prevent this? I hold heard that Woolite may work. Is it worth the extra cost? I spend a moderate amount on trousers ($50) and expect them to fetch me for 3 seasons - is this too much? I spy the pilling after only a season or even smaller amount. I have tried the pill removers and they don't work that okay. How can I prevent this?
Answers: Always sort your laundry by color and by fabric type: never put your trousers within the same nouns with towels things beside heavier fabrics. Some laundry products are more scratchy than others (I have notice increased pilling after using clorox 2 for colors); yes, Woolite or a similar product would be less hardened.
If possible, use a "gentle" cycle on your washer, and the shortest cycle available.
Fabric softener sheets are not allowed at my house; I don't know if these products promote the "pilling" effect.
The pilling occur at the cuffs where the pant rub against your shoes. You might ask the sales staff at the haberdasher if they can recommend fabric that would be less prone to this, or if you stipulation to adjust the length of your trousers by a fleece one way or the other to minimize the friction. The same can be said for between the legs ... if you can remember to not cross your legs, you can minimize the friction, or possibly you need a minor alteration that would be beneficial for this problem.
The pills are due to the substance, not so much something that you are doing. Some materials are just prone to pilling because of the fibre they use. Perhaps you should try buying other brands with a similar look but out of a different things. As far as washing I would dream of that a gentle cycle would be the best.
