My cleaner is a self-employed 24-year-old who gets $65 per one-hour (usually a bit more) call round monthly. Should I tip her? If so, how much?
Answers: I work on the side as a self-employed cleaner, and I don't expect a tip, since the price I charge is already intended as fair and full compensation for my services.
Now, if you've accumulate a really unusually bad mess that she's going to hold to tackle (cleanup after a mad Super Bowl party or something similar to that), it would probably be nice to give her an extra $20 on that moment in time.
I see 2 sides to the story. I worked for a number of years as a housekeeper surrounded by a hotel. I look forward to getting a tip in the rooms I verbs.. Giving a tip makes the housekeeper feel like she is appreciated and she would do extra work for you. But in opposition I think $65.00 is more than ample..
