I disagree about the cheaper shampoo... you'll be held responsible for a ton of money if it clogs up the device.
If you're going to the trouble of shampooing the carpets, spring for the virtuous soap.
Around $20 or so, plus another 10 or so for the shampoo. But I recommend getting the store brand of the shampoo off the shelf, lots cheaper.
