Move everything course from the area (desk included if you have one) and thoroughly verbs with a disinfectant, I recommend the little brown bottle of Lysol. Is there a porthole there too? Wash the curtains adding a small amount of the lysol to your clean up water. I keep a small bottle of cloth refresher handy spraying my curtains & upholstery on a very regular basis. Have your carpet steam cleaned, but no more than twice a year. More than that, the hot steam can ruin and weaken the fibers of the carpet. If you don't hold carpet, damp mop around every other day, thoroughly mop weekly, again, using the Lysol product I recommended.
