Answers: They hold hat molds (not sure what here called) that you can put hats contained by so they keep here shape. You can buy them in almost any store approaching Walmart.
I wash alot of hat HANDWASH...but none with the wool...however, surrounded by the winter climate I DID wash my kids snuggly wool sweater type cap...and hubbys.Not knowing what yours is like, its difficult to push for! I am thinking that with the polyester blend, it will hold its shape & not be as feasible to shrink. SO yes, I would wash it but NOT HOT dampen...and do this by hand! Then shape cap/hat around a pot/pan that will form the shape of your hood & keep it other shaped as it dries...dry outside if possible! Or dry hard by heating vent if you are contained by winter climate. I use hat things to wipe up hubby's hats & cap this holds its nice shapes, but used to always use flipped over pots to assert the shape! Good luck~
