Can you ever REALLY clean them? They are fibrous and aborbant and so hold to have germs on them - at lease more so than a plastic or metal spoon. Why are they still used?
Super hot wet and even some Clorox added to the dish water should assassinate any lurking bacteria. If you are overly concerned after let them soak surrounded by mild bleach water and they should be in recent times fine. As long as you don't marinate them in rare meat products or even sit in food products your wooden spoon should not be a strength threat. My mother and I have used them for year in need harming anyone.

I agree near you wholeheartedly on this.

I use wooden spoons when I make pasta....but never for stirring or using on unprocessed meat! For stirring meat, I use silicone spoons.

*If you are boiling pasta, lay a wooden spoon over the top of the saucepan. It will prevent the water from boiling over!
Answers:    Wood has some immensely effective anti-bacterial intrinsic worth built in that will decimate bacteria pretty quickly and it is certainly a preferable material for adjectives boards to plastic because while plastic will not absorb moisture, the small scuff and scratches will harbor germs and even let it multiply if sterilized.
